Former Liverpool player and football pundit John Aldridge believes the Reds will need a goal to secure a place in the next round of the Europa League when they face Beşiktaş in the second leg of the Round of 32.

“I think we are going to need a goal to go through, and I think we can get one and progress to the last 16,” Aldridge was quoted as saying on the official Liverpool website.

Beşiktaş played a defensive game in the first leg but will have to play a more attacking style of play in Istanbul as they need to score to stay in the tie.

Aldridge underlined that a more open Beşiktaş side could play into the Reds hands.

“They were a very defensive, solid side but they will have to come out and play,” he added.

“Yet if we score they need three and they will be wary of that so how do they approach it?

“They certainly can’t sit back and watch Liverpool play in my view and that may suit us. Our away form is terrific after all.”

Liverpool won the first leg in Anfield 1-0 and will now travel to Istanbul for the return leg at the Atatürk Olympic stadium.

Beşiktaş beat the Reds the last time they faced them in Turkey back in the 2007-08 Champions League group stages.

The Black Eagles have not lost against English opposition at home this season.
