Chelsea pursuit of £42m Arsenal star puts Barcelona on edge  as they target Liverpool’s Coutinho

Reigning Premier League champions Chelsea are planning a move for Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil.

According to the Spanish outlet Don Balon, the London-based club are very much in the running to sign the Germany international. The Blues are understood to be at an advantage as Ozil is keen on remaining in London.

Don Balon goes onto state that Chelsea’s interest in Ozil has set alarm bells off at Barcelona.

Per the source, the La Liga giants are now concerned that if they fail to sign Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, they may also be unable to sign their back-up option, Ozil.

The 29-year-old has been closely linked with a move away from Arsenal after failing to pen a new with the Gunners. Ozil could even end up leaving Arsenal for free next summer.

The former Real Madrid star played a starring role during Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield on Wednesday. Ozil – who joined the Gunners from Real Madrid for £42 million – provided two assists and scored on the night.
