“Heart and bravery” – Man City star reveals reasons behind 2-1 win over Manchester United
Manchester City star playmaker Ilkay Gundgoan has revealed the reasons why his side managed to overcome their biter rivals Man United at Old Trafford over the weekend.
City recorded a 2-1 win over the Red Devils on Sunday to expand their lead at the top table to 11 points after 16 games.
Gundogan was brought on by Man City boss Pep Guardiola in the second half in place of Vincent Kompany. The 26-year-old helped his side dominate the midfield which lead to Nicolas Otamendi’s winner.
The Germany international admitted that the win was ‘special‘ and that Man City deserved the win due to their dominance over Jose Mourinho’s side.
“I think United had an unbeaten run, I don’t know how many games – at home,” Gundogan told reporters after the game.
“It’s definitely not as easy place to go, to play the way we’ve played and especially to win that game.
“So, yeah, it was about a lot of mentality, about a lot of heart and bravery to do these kind of things,” Gundogan told reporters after the game.
Ilkay Gundogan could be back in action this week when Man City take a trip to Wales for Wednesday night’s fixture with Swansea City.
If Man United drop points again this week, City could move 14 points ahead in the table after 17 games.
