Ilkay Gundogan was a surprise inclusion in Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven over the weekend.
The 26-year-old came into the midfield in place of David Silva, who missed the game due to personal reasons.
Gundogan played a starring role during City’s 4-1 win over Tottenham on Saturday. The Germany international of Turkish decent scored City’s opening goal in the first half.
The former Dortmund midfielder took to social media after the game to express his delight upon scoring his first goal of the season. Gundogan shared a photo of himself celebrating and included the following caption, “WHAT – A – FEELING! My first goal this season & another important win in such a physical match! A very special day for me.”
