Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he signs an extension.

The Belgium international has been closely linked with an Old Trafford exit with Besiktas emerging as the bookmakers favourites to clinch a deal.

Despite nearing the end of his contract United boss Jose Mourinho continues to show faith in the midfielder.

Mourinho is understood to be keen on Fellaini staying until at least the end of the season and does not want to lose him in January.

The Sun claimed that Mourinho held crisis talks with Fellaini in a last-ditch attempt to get him to sign a new contract deal last month.

Fellaini suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Belgium in October.

Despite returning recently against Chelsea, the 29-year-old has not been seen since the end of November.

Fellaini was not involved in the Red Devils Carabao Cup clash against Bristol City yesterday.
