Man United transfer news: Liverpool deal has boosted Jose Mourinho’s chances of signing Arsenal star Mesut Ozil

Arsenal star playmaker Mesut Ozil’s long-term future at the club has been cast in doubt after failing to pen a new deal.

The 29-year-old has under five months left on his contract and could even leave Arsenal for free this summer.

Man United boss Jose Mourinho is keen on a move for his former player and due to Ozil’s contract situation, may be able to sign him at a cut-price in January.

The Red Devils were expected to face competition from Barcelona for the Germany international’s signature, however, their signing of Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho has left United in pole position.

According to ESPN pundit David Amoyal Ozil’s first preference is to remain in the Premier League. Amoyal went onto state that Ozil’s chances of ending up at Old Trafford increased after Barcelona’s latest transfer activity.

“There’s a good chance Alexis Sanchez will be sold this month, but Arsenal’s other big name with an expiring contract will almost certainly finish the season at the Emirates,” Amoyal told ESPN.

“Come summer, though, the odds of seeing him at Old Trafford will increase since Ozil prefers to stay in the Premier League, especially after Barcelona signing Philippe Coutinho made the Camp Nou a less likely destination.

“Ozil has been linked to Juventus and Inter, but a move to Serie A is unlikely given his wage demands.”

Ozil could be back in action tonight when Arsenal take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final at Stamford Bridge.
