Liverpool suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against Swansea City at Liberty Stadium on Monday.
Emre Can was named captain heading into the clash after an impressive display in the 4-3 victory over Manchester City last week.
The midfielder of Turkish origin did not exactly put on a memorable performance against the Swans but to be fair neither did the rest of his teammates.
We took a look at how Liverpool fans reacted to Can’s captaincy on social media.

Proper line up that. Can deserves the armband. #WeGoAgain

I’m the only one who seems happy Emre Can is captain. He is captain material.

Emre Can captain is a bad joke

Emre Can was born to be captain and deservedly getting the nod today.

I am finally seeing Emre Can captain our club, what a moment. I seriously hope that he signs that contract, and we see him here for a few more years. Our future captain.

Good point! perhaps it could be a signal that Can may be staying on? then again Coutinho got the captains armband but left for Barcelona so not sure how much to read into that.
The 24-year-old has a few months remaining on his contract but has yet to sign an extension.
Can will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he signs a new deal.
Wouldn’t have a problem with Can being captain if he was committed to the club. It seems like a way of trying to get him to stay like with Coutinho. We should be giving it to a player that wants to be here.

Emre Can must be captain because of that good news he gave the club last week.. ??
— Connor (@CWillo92) January 22, 2018
People think Emre Can being given the armband means he’s staying, completely forgetting the fact that Coutinho was captain just before he left. It’s a meaningless gesture.

Can actually became the Reds 6th different captain in their last six Premier League games.

Here is another stat for you all.
Emre Can becomes LFC’s 25th captain in the Premier League – can you name them all?//t.co/NV5WiUO8j3

Could Can be captain because he was the longest-serving player available tonight?
As much I like Emre Can and happy he has the armband. I wouldn’t read too much in to him being captain tonight. He’s just the player who’s been at the club the longest in the starting XI
— LFC Stanley House (@LFCStanleyHouse) January 22, 2018
Not everyone was pleased with Can’s display as captain. Or was there some sarcasm involved?
Emre Can is our worst captain since Lovren, who was our worst captain since Coutinho, who was our worst captain since Mignolet, who was our worst captain since Milner, who was our worst captain since Henderson, who is our worst captain since 1892.

Emre Can is the most undeserved Liverpool captain since Dejan Lovren
Wait…

This is what happens when you allow Emre Can to be captain
— Oliver Judson (@OliverJudson) January 22, 2018
Emre can captain. Looking for a move to juve. You having a laugh. Worst player on the pitch. Firmino non existent tonight. Joe Gomez quality was awful and salah made wrong decisions and mane had another clear cut chance to score before half time and blew it.
— matty clark (@mattyclark10) January 22, 2018
Bit of banter!
Emre Can captain tonight, Coutinho a couple of weeks ago.
If you express an interest in leaving Liverpool, Klopp will give you the armband. Jon Flanagan, you know what to do son.
