Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed how he plans to use both Mesut Ozil and new signing Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Armenia international made the move to the north London based club from Manchester United in a deal which saw Alexis Sanchez go in the opposite direction.
Mkhitaryan played in the number ten role during his spell at Borussia Dortmund and was also utilised in the same position by Jose Mourinho at Man United. Currently, Mesut Ozil occupies the number ten role at the north London based club.
However, Wenger believes the two star players can play together at Arsenal.
“I think Mkhitaryan can play in all positions in midfield,” Wenger told reporters on Friday.
“In a box to box role, certainly not a defensive role or as a holding player, but all the other positions are not out of reach.
“Until now he has played in a wide role but he can certainly absorb that role in a kind of winger or playmaker. I don’t rule it out for him to become a box to box player.”
Ozil’s long-term Arsenal future is cast in doubt after failing to extend his contract with the Gunners. The 29-year-old has entered the final five months of his deal and could end up leaving the club for free in the summer.
Both Mkhitaryan and Ozil could make Wenger’s starting eleven when Arsenal take on relegation battlers Swansea City on Tuesday evening.
