Turkish League Previews 20: Title Race Beginning To Take Shape Between Top 4

The 20th round of the 2017-18 Super Lig season is about to kick off.

The title race is beginning to take shape as an 11-point gap has now opened up between leaders Basaksehir and fifth-placed Trabzonspor.

Meanwhile just six points separate the top four.

Our current record for picks stand at 51 wins 34 loss.

Bursaspor vs Besiktas

Bursaspor have been in dreadful form losing four of their last five league games. It is worth pointing out they have played Trabzonspor, Basaksehir and Fenerbahce. We would have been able to make an argument that they’ve only lost against the leagues strongest sides but the fact they also dropped points against Genclerbirligi and Alanyaspor points to a deeper problem. The Green Crocodiles do play some lovely football but have been wildly erratic this season. Besiktas, on the other hand, are moving up the gears. The loss of Cenk Tosun to Everton has not turned out to be the disaster most folk thought it would. Anderson Talisca has stepped up and has five goals in his last three games. The team in general looks refreshed and ready to do business. Now it is worth underlining these two sides are huge rivals and there will be a raucous atmosphere. This one could get very heated but I still see Besiktas coming out on top.

Prediction: Besiktas -0 (Draw No Bet) PUSH

Karabukspor vs Alanyaspor

Karabukspor are last in the table, Alanyaspor have been marginally better but in all honesty this is worth keeping clear of.

Antalyaspor vs Malatyaspor

Antalyaspor are in disarray. Malatyaspor meanwhile have hit a rich vein of form and made a few decent additions over the winter break.

Prediction: Malatyaspor -0 (Draw No Bet) LOSS

Fenerbahce vs Genclerbirligi

Genclerbirligi have won their last two league games but they are still hovering above the drop zone. Fenerbahce meanwhile are in a bit of a pickle. They have not actually lost in their last 13 games in all competitions. Great news you would think. Not quite! Yellow Canaries fans are not best pleased with the football on display. The Istanbul giants have been effective under Aykut Kocaman but he plays a brand of football that does not go down well with the supporters. Additionally they have not exactly been playing the toughest sides in the league. Kocaman also has a mounting injury crisis. Regardless, the Istanbul giants should have enough to grind out a home win.

Prediction: Under 2.5 goals LOSS

Osmanlispor vs Kayserispor

Kayserispor have a great chance to get back on track after three weeks without a win against an Osmanlispor that could easily end up relegated if they continue playing at this level.

Prediction: Kayserispor +0.5 Asian Handicap WIN

Kasimpasa vs Akhisar

Not even going to bother predicting this one.

Konyaspor vs Basaksehir

Can anyone stop Basaksehir? Konyaspor at home are always tough even if they are second from bottom but the former Istanbul minnows just can’t be underestimated anymore.

Prediction: Basaksehir -0 (Draw No Bet) PUSH

Sivasspor vs Galatasaray

Sivasspor away this time of year is tough. Expect subzero temperatures and a rowdy crowd to welcome Galatasaray. The Lions are on fire under Fatih Terim and moral is at a high. I don’t see the Istanbul giants getting an easy ride but they should be able to avoid defeat.

Prediction: Galatasaray -0 (Draw No Bet) LOSS

Trabzonspor vs Goztepe

Prediction: Over 2.5 goals LOSS
