Former Turkey national team manager Mustafa Denizli has slammed Everton boss Sam Allardyce for failing to get the best out of Cenk Tosun.
Tosun made the move to Everton from Besiktas during the January transfer window for a lofty £27 million.
However, the Turkey international has not hit the ground running since his arrival in England. Tosun was dropped from Allardyce’s starting lineup after just two games after failing to find the back of the net.
Denizli, who has also managed both Galatasaray and Besiktas, has blamed Everton boss Allardyce’s tactics and the lack of quality at the Merseyside based club for Tosun’s struggles.
“It is natural for Tosun to struggle to play for a defensive minded team like Everton after arriving from Besiktas,” Denizli wrote in his column for the daily Turkish newspaper Hurriyet
“I’ve watched their [Everton’s] games closely and their manager Sam Allardyce is cautious and sets his team up with a defensive mindset.
“This makes it difficult for Cenk who is used to playing alongside creative players like Ricardo Quaresma, Ryan Babel, Anderson Talisca.”
“I also believe Everton lack the quality to provide Cenk with enough service in attack. However, Cenk is a hardworking player and I believe he will secure a place in the first team in the near future.”
Cenk Tosun could be back in action for Everton this weekend when they take on Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old striker made the move to Everton on the back of 14 goals and three assists for Besiktas this season.
Tosun also played a starring role in their UEFA Champions League campaign helping his former side finish the group stage as leaders.
