Liverpool legend urges star midfielder to ignore Juventus interest but remains pessimistic

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has issued a plea to his former club’s star midfielder Emre Can.

Can has been the subject of months of transfer speculation after failing to put pen-to-paper on a new deal.

The 24-year-old has entered the final four months of his contract and could end up leaving the club for free in the Summer.

Despite the ongoing contract dispute, Can has remained as a key member of Jurgen Klopp’s starting eleven.

Serie A giants Juventus have been closely linked with a move for Can. The Italian giants recently sent scouts to watch the 24-year-old in action.

Gerrard has urged Can to extend his stay at Liverpool but has admitted that he isn’t optimistic that the midfielder will remain in a Liverpool shirt for long.

“I would be a bit more patient with Liverpool and I would hang on,” Gerrard stated live on BT Sport.

“If he had decided he was going to stay at Liverpool, I think everyone would know that by now.

“You still have that little bit of hope as a Liverpool fan that he might change his mind.”

Emre Can played the full 90 minutes during Liverpool’s thrilling 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday.

The combative midfielder is expected to be back in action this weekend when the Reds take on Southampton in the Premier League.
