Everton boss Sam Allardyce reveals reason why £26m January signing was left on the bench against Palace

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has revealed why he continues to leave January signing Cenk Tosun on the bench.

The Turkey international has experienced a torrid time following his move to the Toffees from Besiktas for £26 million in January.

Tosun was an unused substitute for the second game in a row during Everton’s 3-1 win over Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.

Following the game, Allardyce told reporters that Tosun is struggling to adapt to the pace of the Premier League.

The experienced manager stated that Cenk will begin more game time once Everton have secured their Premier League safety.

“He [Cenk Tosun] is struggling with the pace of the Premier League which happens to more players than it doesn’t to who come in in January,” Allardyce told reporters at the post-game press conference.

“There are more that struggle than actually succeed. As time goes on and the more we get closer to our safety the more we can release and see what he’s got.”

Tosun has found himself on the bench for Everton’s last three games.

Everton moved up into ninth spot with 34 points following their win over Crystal Palace.

The Toffees take on Watford FC in their next Premer League fixture on February 24.
