Man City Probable Line-up Against Basel – Pep Guardiola Receives Injury Boost

Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 16 points over rivals – and second-placed side – Manchester United.

City beat Leicester City 5-1, taking another giant leap towards securing the championship.

With the title all but in the bag, Pep Guardiola has the luxury of being able to select a full strength side in the Champions League Last 16 first-leg clash against Basel.

Guardiola will now have to worry about having to rotate his side or keep an eye on the Premier League.

City could welcome back David Silva who has been missing with injury.

Silva did not start against the Foxes but has recovered and could be used at some stage against Basel – although he is not likely to start.

This will be Man City’s first meeting with FC Basel in any UEFA competitions; the English side is yet to face a Swiss club either.

Guardiola is without Benjamin Mendy who has a long-term knee injury, as does back-up left-back Fabian Delph.

Leroy Sane and Gabriel Jesus are also still sidelined.

Oleksandr Zinchenko and Danilo are in contention for a left-back spot.

Aymeric Laporte could make his Champions League debut for the club but John Stones and Kompany are likely to start instead.

Midfielder of Turkish origin Ilkay Gundogan is match fit and has started since Silva’s absence.

Gundogan is likely to keep his starting role in midfield against Basel.

Kevin de Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling are all almost certain to start.

City have never faced Basel before in European competition. Basel meanwhile have played English sides 29 times in Europe, their home record stands at 6 wins, 2 draws and 5 losses from 13 – including a win over Manchester United.
