Former Republic of Ireland star Mark Lawrenson has revealed his prediction for the Carabao Cup final.

Manchester City take on Arsenal at Wembley stadium as they look to win their first piece of silverware this season.

The Citizens were eliminated from the FA Cup following a shock defeat at the hands of Wigan Athletic.

Pep Guardiola’s side will be keen to make amends after losing the chance to lift a historic quadruple.

Mark Lawrenson believes the Citizens will bounce back from Monday’s defeat and comfortably beat Arsenal by a 2-0 scoreline.

“I won the League Cup with Liverpool on three occasions in the 1980s, and each time we won the league title too,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.

“It is great to be able to tuck it under your belt once you have won it, and it kind of kicks you on for the rest of the season.”

“Will they win at Wembley? Yes. They can start again and really focus on this match after losing to Wigan – and I don’t see Arsenal stopping them.”

Arsenal comes into today’s clash off the back of a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Ostersunds. Manager Arsene Wenger did, however, opt to field a weakened side to rest his key names for the Carabao Cup final.

The French tactician is yet to lift the League Cup during his long spell at the north London based club.
