Everton Boss Explains Cenk Tosun Decision After Fans Booed Him

Everton manager Sam Allardyce had fans fuming after substituting off Cenk Tosun against Burnley on Saturday.

Tosun scored his first goal for the Toffees at Turf Moor in the Premier League.

The Turkey international put his side ahead but Everton went onto lose the game and Tosun ended up being taken off for Oumar Niasse when the score was 1-1.

Allardyce did not seem all that bothered about fans booing him but revealed he replaced Tosun because he thought the striker had ran out of steam.

Asked about the boos, he said: “It happens.

“My job is not what the fans are saying or not saying, even though we want the fans cheering you and not booing you of course, but I had to change the situation and say it was only his third start since he arrived, he’s worked extremely hard on his game.

“Everyone has seen he’s got better, looking more accomplished, he scored his goal but he was running out of legs and he was feeling the pace of the game which happens when you first come here and we replaced him with fresh legs which is Oumar.”

Big Sam also backed Niasse who he argued has been in good form of late.

“He’s scored more goals than anybody else lately, there’s only Wayne who’s scored more than him, so Oumar comes on, fresh and ready to go and those are the decisions that you make,” he added.

“It hasn’t worked because we haven’t played well enough in the second-half to create enough chances.

“But that’s life, that’s what you deal with as a manager, everybody has an opinion on the game of football and I have to make the decisions and you make them and, from a substitute point of view, you hope they make an impact.”

Tosun started his third game since completing his move from Besiktas against Burnley.

The striker now has 15 goals in all competitions this season if you count the times he netted for the Black Eagles as well.

The goal was the first time a Turkish international has found the back of the net for the Toffees.

Everton missed the chance to join 7th placed Burnley on 37 points following the defeat.

The Toffees will take on Brighton next in the Premier League.
