Liverpool beat Newcastle United 2-0 at Anfield to move into second place in the Premier League on Saturday.
Manchester United will have the chance to move back into second position on Monday when they take on Crystal Palace but for now the Reds hold the spot.
Emre Can started for Liverpool despite rumours that Jurgen Klopp would rest him to avoid risking a suspension.
The midfielder of Turkish origin would have picked up an automatic suspension had he been shown a yellow card against the Magpies – which he most certainly did not.
We took a look at how Liverpool fans reacted to Can’s display on social media.

High praise for Mr Can.
Thought Emre Can was brilliant. Played a couple of lovely forward passes. If Jorginho made those passes in a game for Napoli this weekend, then fans would be watching them on repeat.

Can Liverpool keep hold of Can or will they lose him to Juventus… would be a shame to lose him on free.
I hope we can keep hold of Emre Can
We will miss him if he goes to Juventus

This has been another game that shows just how much Liverpool will miss Emre Can when he goes.

Emre Can is making a huge mistake by leaving Liverpool, we are the best we have been in the last 5 years and with a good summer window are genuine contenders for the Premier league

The 24-year-old could however, still spring a surprise and stay beyond the end of the season. All he needs to do is sign the contract!
CAN you sign that contract already!? #EmreCan
