Arsene Wenger still believes star duo can play together in same Arsenal team

Mesut Ozil

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has received that he still believes Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan can play in the same team.

Aside from the Armenia international’s debut, Mkhitaryan has failed to shine since his move to Arsenal from Manchester United in January.

The two-star names are among the Gunners highest paid players, however, there are doubts that the two players can play together.

During the pre-game press conference ahead of Arsenal’s mid-week encounter against AC Milan, Wenger was asked whether Ozil and Mkhitaryan can play together.

The French tactician responded by pointing out that many number 10s have succeeded alongside each other.

“It is, of course, possible,” Wenger told reporters.

“It depends on what you call a number 10. Football is full of famous stories of number 10s who have played together. History has proven that the best players can.

“I hope he [Mkhitaryan] will help us but before thinking to win the Europa League we have to face Milan and try to give everything to qualify.

“In my opinion, it will be a tight tie because Milan are doing well at the moment.”

Ozil recently put an end to months of speculation when the penned a new three-year contract with the north London based club.

Arsenal comes into tonight’s clash following three defeats in a row and will be desperate to return to winning ways.
