Fenerbahce take on Galatasaray in the Intercontinental Derby on Saturday hoping to keep their season alive.
Tottenham striker on loan at Tottenham, Vincent Janssen, has been ruled out of action since December.
The striker had been restricted to an orthopaedic boot after doctors found damaged nerve endings in his toe.
Doctors were unable to operate on the edema on his right foot remains a problem.
An edema is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in certain tissues within the body, in this case Janssen’s foot.
The player gained almost 3 litres of fluid because of the edema, and this development has baffled club doctors.
Janssen was expected to be ruled out for the rest of the season but could return to action sooner than expected.

Fenerbahce have struggled to get their forwards firing this season and have not been helped by Vincent Janssen being sidelined with injury since December.
The Tottenham loanee missed his 16th successive game in all competitions for the Yellow Canaries last week.
Janssen has returned to light training after recovering from his toe injury but he has been ruled out of the Intercontinental Derby against Galatasaray next week.
The derby clash could prove a pivotal point in Fenerbahce’s season.
The Canaries are currently six points behind Galatasaray, a defeat would effectively rule them out of the title race.
