Liverpool Star Has Not Given Up Hope Of Overtaking Man United Despite Defeat

Liverpool suffered a blow to their chances of finishing the season as runners-up after losing to rivals Manchester United last week at Old Trafford.

The Reds were beaten 2-1 away from home, missing the chance to overtake second-placed United.

The loss has not caused Emre Can to lose faith, in fact he still believes second place is a realistic goal.

The midfielder of Turkish origin is hopeful that the Reds can make up the point gap over the last eight games of the season.

“It was very important for second place as well. That’s why it feels [even] more disappointing,” Can, speaking to the club’s website, said of the United defeat.

“But we still have the chance to be second in the table, we have a lot of matches. Now we have to see what happens from game to game — we’ll try to win ours and see where we are at the end of the season.”

Liverpool take on Watford at Anfield Stadium next in the Premier League.

The Reds fell into fourth place following the United loss, falling four points behind their rivals and one behind Tottenham.

Second-place is still up for grabs but they will have to be careful of not dropping any further points with fifth-placed Chelsea hot on their tails, trailing by just four points.

The Reds still have to play the reigning Premier League champions at Stamford Bridge in May.

Liverpool also have the Merseyside derby against Everton coming up next month.

Can is expected to start for Liverpool against Watford on Saturday.
