Liverpool Move Into 6th Place In UEFA Club Rankings, Bayern Munich Top List After Eliminating Besiktas Who Drop To 14th

Bayern Munich top the UEFA club rankings for the 2017-18 season after beating Besiktas 8-1 on aggregate over the two legs.

The German giants beat the Black Eagles 5-0 at the Allianz Arena followed by a 3-1 win at the Vodafone Park Stadium in Istanbul.

The double defeat saw Besiktas drop into 14th this season on 19,000 points which is just 1000 points lower that last season.

The Istanbul giants reached the Champions League Last 16 as group leaders for the first time.

Midfielder of Turkish origin Emre Can will be pleased to know Liverpool moved into 6th place overall after eliminating Porto from the competition.

The Reds beat Porto 5-0 on aggregate over the two legs, with a 5-0 win in Portugal followed by a goalless draw at Anfield.

The highest ranking team as far as players of Turkish origin are concerned is Manchester City.

Ilkay Gundogan’s side are fourth overall after also booking a place in the quarter-finals.

The only other Turkish player remaining in the quarter-finals is Cengiz Under whose away goal proved crucial in Roma eliminating Shakhtar Donetsk from the tournament.

The only clubs remaining in Europe that could overtake Besiktas this season are from the Europa League.

The Istanbul giants will however, finish in the top 20 regardless of who ends up winning the Europa League.

As far as the overall ranking – which tallies the points accumulated over the past five seasons – is concerned Real Madrid are first.

The only Premier League side in the top 10 is actually City.

Liverpool may be high flying this season in the UEFA rankings but overall they are 30th.
