Manchester City star playmaker Ilkay Gundogan has stated that he is still in disbelief regarding Germany’s historic victory over Brazil in the 2014 World Cup.

The 27-year-old missed the 2014 World Cup due to a serious back injury and was also sidelined for Euro 2016 with a knee injury.

Gundogan made his Germany debut back in 2011 but is yet to make a single appearance at a major international tournament.

The Man City star made an appearance off the bench during Germany’s 1-1 draw with on Friday.

“I’m happy to be at a pretty good level so close to the tournament,” Gundogan was quoted as saying by Manchester Evening News.

“I am fit and feel fit. I want to maintain that. If that means I make it to the World Cup then so be it.”

Gundogan went on to state that he was in shock while watching Germany’s 7-1 win over Brazil back in 2014.

“We were all sitting in disbelief in front of the TV,” Gundogan said.

“Such a result is not commonplace for a World Cup semi-final. The current Brazilian team is not comparable to that of 2014. The 7-1 is no longer an issue for us – just having the two sides play against each other is special.

“Brazil are definitely one of the favourites for the World Cup. The Brazilians are very emotional, and they hold football in such a high regard, it gives them such a zest for life and has an almost spiritual meaning for them.”

Gundogan could feature once again when Germany take on Brazil again on Tuesday night in an international friendly encounter.
