Cenk Tosun’s Former Manager Opens Up About Everton Transfer

Turkey international Cenk Tosun left Besiktas on a high after scoring 14 goals and providing four assists over the first half of the season.

Tosun was in brilliant Champions League form netting four goals and providing two assists.

Besiktas finished the group stage as undefeated leaders – the first Turkish side to do so.

Tosun also played a key role in the Black Eagles lifting the league title for the past two seasons.

There is no doubt that the 26-year-old was a star player for the Istanbul giants.

Besiktas manager Senol Gunes revealed that losing Tosun was a blow but that he feels the striker will be a success in the Premier League.

“This decision was not an easy decision to make on behalf of the club,” Gunes told the ECHO.

“Because Cenk Tosun was one of our most important performers.

“Cenk Tosun can be successful in the Premier League. He is young and he likes football and working.

“Cenk is a very good centre-forward who can score goals using both feet and his head.”

Gunes had more good news for Everton fans as he feels Tosun still has a lot more to give.

“The player is a footballer who can go above that performance,” he added.

As has often been the case with players leaving Besiktas over recent years, Tosun remains on good terms with the club and is still widely respected by the fans.

Gunes also confirmed that he is still in contact with the striker he played a major role in developing.

It was under the stewardship of Gunes that Tosun became the player he is today.

“After he signed for Everton, I saw Cenk,” he said.

“I always talk to my students. He’s a player I like. Playing for another club does not stop it.”
