Man City star playmaker Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that he exchanged text messages with Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp in the lead up to Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League clash.
The fixture takes place at Anfield while kick-off is scheduled for 19:45 (GMT).
Gundogan is good friends with the Reds boss despite snubbing him in favour of a move to Manchester City back in 2016.
“We did chat a bit at that time about the draw,” Gundogan was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“I only said ‘see you soon’ and sent him a little smiley emoji, to which he answered with a smiley as well.”
Gundogan was signed to Borussia Dortmund from Nuremberg by Jurgen Klopp at the age of 20. The pair win the Bundesliga together and reached the UEFA Champions League final.
The 26-year-old has established himself as a first-team regular at Manchester City after overcoming a serious knee injury which kept him sidelined for over ten months.
City recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over Everton over the weekend and have the chance to lift the Premier League title when they host their bitter rivals Man United at the Etihad on Saturday.
