Turks Abroad: Ozil Inspires Arsenal, Cenk Tosun Goal Run Ends, Calhanoglu Unable To Stop Juve

Hakan Calhanoglu – Bayer Leverkusen

Calhanoglu provided an assist and hit the post but it was still not enough to topple league leaders Juventus who emerged as 3-1 winners. The 24-year-old created three goal scoring opportunities in what was an impressive display. In fact against any other side in the league it would probably have been enough to win the game.

Cenk Tosun – Everton

All good things come to an end. Tosun had scored in his last three games heading into the clash but failed to extend his goal streak against City. The fact he was starved of service did not help matters. Hopefully, head coach Sam Allardyce will take a more adventurous approach against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby next season. Tosun will deliver as long as he receives decent delivery.

Mesut Ozil – Arsenal

Ozil got his own back on Stoke, his trolls and the local police force after a brilliant display over the weekend. The playmaker of Turkish origin won the penalty for the opener, provided the corner for the second goal and even offered out Hector Bellerin for a fight.

Ozil trolled Bellerin on Twitter after the game.

Then proceeded to get his own back on the Stoke police after they mocked him the last time the Gunners played Stoke.

Caglar Soyuncu – Freiburg

Despite Freiburg losing 2-0, Soyuncu still managed to put on a pretty decent display. The Turkey international won more aerial balls (3), made more interceptions (4) and passed more accuractely (87.5 percent) than any other of his teammates. It is little wonder the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs have been linked with him this week. The 21-year-old has been flying under the radar for the past two seasons.
