‘If He Gets A Chance, He’ll Stick It In’ – Ferguson Reveals Turning Point For Everton Star

Everton striker Cenk Tosun has scored four goals since joining from Besiktas in January.

Tosun scored all four goals after returning from the Toffees summer training camp in Dubai and club legend Duncan Ferguson has been credited with getting the Turkey international up to speed.

Ferguson waxed lyrical about Tosun to the official Everton website describing the striker as a great finisher.

The Toffees coach also underlined that the training trip in Dubai really helped Tosun settle in.

“He’s a finisher. I’ve worked with players before, and he’s a finisher. You know, in the main, if he gets a chance, he’ll stick it in,” Ferguson told the official Everton website.

“I think he’s found the pace of the game now. When he was at Besiktas he had a winter break and he came back maybe not quite ready. But we continued to work with him.

“We had a few weeks prior to when we went out to Dubai and then we trained hard there.

“We have had a good bit of work since then on the training ground and I think it’s just finding the pace of the Premier League – it’s not easy.

“But he’s sharpened up and managed to get a couple of goals. We hope that continues.”

Tosun recently opened up on how helpful Ferguson has been in helping him settle into the Premier League.

The Turkey international told Turkish-Football: “We have a legendary player here called Duncan Ferguson, he has been a huge help behind the scenes. He stayed behind with me after training to work on my game, my fitness, get me up to speed with the Premier League. He always believed in me. When I wasn’t playing he helped me keep my head up, he’s been fantastic, we work really closely together, I think I remind him of himself a bit.”

Tosun returned from Dubai a changed man. After winning his place back as a starter he scored in the 2-1 defeat to Burnley.

He then found the back of the net in the next two games including a brace in the 2-1 win over Stoke City which was the Toffees first away victory of 2018.
