Everton and Newcastle suffer major transfer blow as Cape Verde international cools exit reports

Garry Rodrigues

Everton and Newcastle United have suffered a major transfer blow after Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues discussed his future plans.

The Cape Verde international attracted the attenion of clubs across Europe following an impressive season for the Lions. Rodrigues played a key role during Galatasaray’s title-winning season and established himself as a first-team regular following the appointment of Fatih Terim as manager.

Everton have been linked with a move for Rodrigues since January while Newcastle had an offer for the Cape Verde rejected back in January.

However, Rodriguez has stated that he is happy with life in Istanbul and isn’t seeking a move away form the Istanbul giants.

“There are reports linking me with several clubs across Europe,” Rodrigues told Greek outlet Metrosport.

“However, I am contracted to Galatasaray and want to remain at the club.”

Galatasaray’s participation in the UEFA Champions League defiantly will be one reason for Rodrigues to remain with the Lions. Fatih Terim’s side have already booked their place in the group stages after securing the Turkish Super Lig title.

Rodrigues registered 11 assists and nine goals in 33 league games for Galatasaray this season.
