“His body language is negative” – Lothar Matthaus singles out and slams Mesut Ozil for Germany loss

Germany legend Lothar Matthaus has slammed Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil for his performance against Mexico.

The 29-year-old played the full 90 minutes during Germany’s 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Mexicans on Sunday.

Despite a number of players performing poorly on the day, Matthaus has seemingly taken a page out of Martin Keown’s book and pinned the blame on Mesut Ozil.

Matthaus has questioned Ozil’s desire to play for the Germany national team.

“What displeases: His body language is negative,” Matthaus wrote in his Bild column.

“He is in the game without joy. I often have the feeling that on the pitch Ozil doesn’t feel comfortable in the DFB jersey, is not free – almost as if he does not want to play.

“There is no heart, no joy, no passion. After the latest impression, it is not excluded for me that he withdraws from the national team after the World Cup.”

Matthaus went onto state: “For a year of two, Ozil has played at a level that does not justify the free ticket of Jogi Loew.

“If things go well then Ozil plays well too. If things are going badly, it [a poor performance] will happen.”

Germany take on Sweden in their next Group F game in the World Cup. The Swedes picked up three points from their opening game against South Korea.

A defeat for Joachim Low’s side could see them eliminated from the World Cup after just two games.

Ozil played a key role during Germany’s World Cup triumph back in 2014 and has racked up 23 goals in 91 caps.
