Right-wing German party demand Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Ilkay Gundogan ‘should be dropped’

The right-wing, anti-immigration German party AfD has demanded that the national team drop Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Man City star Ilkay Gundogan.

The right-wing party have demanded that the Premier League duo should be removed from the squad after having their photographs taken with Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Ozil and Gundogan stirred up controversy in Germany after calling Erdogan “my president” on social media.

The Arsenal playmaker has also been slammed by Germany legends Lothar Matthaus and Stefan Effenberg following the defeat to Mexico.

Joachim Low’s side suffered a 1-0 loss to Mexico on Sunday afternoon and could be eliminated from the competition if they lose to Sweden this weekend.

Meanwhile, the AfD have stated that the “team spirit” in the Germany camp is down following the Erdogan photo row.

Fortunately for Ozil and Gundogan, manager Joachim Low appears to be unmoved by the external influences.

The experienced tactician warned the duo prior to the tournament that they should prepare for more whistles and jeers during the 2018 World Cup.
