Champions League Football Convinced Everton Starlet To Make Summer Transfer After Turning Down Rival Turkish Offers

Everton starlet Henry Onyekuru has reached an agreement with Galatasaray to join the Super Lig champions on loan.

A source close to the player revealed to Turkish-Football that a deal is in place and will be officially announced within the next 48 hours.

Champions League football proved pivotal in Onyekuru reaching an agreement.

The 21-year-old had been offered to Besiktas and Fenerbahce via agents but opted for Galatasaray are they were the only club able to guarantee Champions League group stage action.

Iranian agent Mogi Bayat was responsible for bringing the Nigerian forward to Istanbul for his Galatasaray medical yesterday.

The Lions have included a clause that would allow them to terminate the loan deal should his knee injury recur.

The Istanbul based outfit requested an option to extend the loan deal by an additional season or include a buyout clause.

Galatasaray will also include a sign-on fee and cover most of Onyekuru’s wages.

Lions manager Fatih Terim also confirmed yesterday that the transfer will go ahead.

Terim said the following from the Galatasaray training camp in Austria: “We have been keeping tabs on Onyekuru since last season.

“He scored nine goals in 19 games for Anderlecht and played in the Champions League.

“He played as a second forward and behind the striker at times last season.

“I hope our new transfer is a success.

“Everyone will see that the transfer makes financial sense when the details are revealed.”
