Manchester City star playmaker could be on his way to La Liga champions Barcelona this summer following a surprising twist.

According to the Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, Barcelona have managed to attract the attention of Gundogan.

Per the source, the La Liga giants are offering Gundogan the No.8 jersey previously worn by Andres Iniesta and gurantees of a first-team place in the squad.

Meanwhile, Manchester City have also tabled a new contract offer for Gundogan.

Barcelona are on the hunt for a new midfield playmaker after Iniesta made the move to Japanese side Vissel Kobe.

However, during a recent interview, Gundogan revealed that he is happy with life in Manchester.

“I have two years to go on my current contract,” he said before Germany’s World Cup campaign.

“But it also depends on the club if they want me to stay. Everyone can see and feel I am really happy here.

“With the way we play, with the people around me, in the city, in the community, I really enjoy it here and really enjoy my life. I’m happy.

“There are plenty of things still to achieve. We are committed to this every year at City, not just the players, but the coaching staff, to try to win the biggest trophies.

“That’s what we will be trying to do next season and the season after.”

Gundogan managed to break into Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven last season and played a major role in Man City’s title win.

The 27-year-old provided seven assists and scored six goals in 49 appearances for the Citizens during the 2017/18 season.

City take on Arsenal in their opening game of the 2018/19 campaign next month.
