Newly appointed Arsenal manager Unai Emery has offered star playmaker Mesut Ozil support following a problematic summer.
The 29-year-old has been under fire following a disastrous World Cup campaign.
Emery told reporters that he will help Ozil and that he wants all his players to be in good mental condition going into the season.
“We are here to help every player,” Emery was quoted as saying by the Guardian.
“For us Mesut is a very important player. We want to help to be well, fine with us.
“The national team didn’t get the results they want but today he is on holiday, and I want him to relax well and I want, when he comes back with us, to start with a good mentality. I want to work with him with a new way and with an ambition to continue with this quality and to help him to get better with the team.”
Ozil courted controversy prior to the 2018 World Cup after posing for a photograph with Turkey president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Things didn’t get much better during the tournament after Germany crashed out during the group stages. Joachim Low’s side finished bottom of Group F following defeats to both Mexico and South Korea.

Ozil played the full 90 minutes for Germany during their two defeats.
The 29-year-old was targeted by Germany fans and pundits following their exit prompting Ozil’s father calling for his son to retire from international football.
Ozil is expected to return to Arsenal for pre-season training later this month. The Gunners take on Manchester City in their first game of the 2018/19 Premier League season.
