Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has defended Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil and Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan.

The duo were included in Joachim Low’s Germany national team squad which unexpectedly crashed out of the World Cup in the group stage.

Germany finished bottom of Group F following defeats to both Mexico and South Korea.

Ozil played during both defeats while Gundogan only made an appearance off the bench during Germany’s win over Sweden.

Both Ozil and Gundogan were singled out by the German press following the World Cup disaster, however, Jurgen Klopp believes the hate directed at the Arsenal and Man City stars is wrong.

“Complete nonsense. The intelligent people of this country demand tolerance. And the others should shut up and not question the boys,” Klopp told Sports Bild.

“Older, more experienced people should have helped them there. We should not forget that the two of them have Turkish roots even though they grew up here in Germany.

“But it is the same as always: the one who cries the loudest is the one heard the most. But that’s never been my thing.”

Interestingly, Ozil could face Gundogan on the first day of the Premier League season when Arsenal take on Manchester City.

Liverpool meanwhile hosts West Ham United at Anfield. The Reds will be without Emre Can this seaso who made the move to Juventus earlier this summer.
