Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster recently signed a five-year professional contract with the club.
The 18-year-old was once a Chelsea player but left the academy aged 14 joining the Reds.
The forward of part-Turkish origin revealed the reasons behind his decision to part ways with the Blues.
Brewster made it clear one of the deciding factors was how few players
Brewster was spotted by scouts from Chelsea, Arsenal, West Ham and Charlton at the tender age of seven.
He joined Chelsea and developed his game in the west London club’s academy.
But at the age of 14 he followed a similar path of fellow Londoner Raheem Sterling in heading to Premier League rivals Liverpool.
He was quoted by the Daily Star as saying: “There was nothing special or different about that day.
“It was after football, and as usual, my dad and I spoke about how it went and the areas I wanted to work on.
“I realised all the names we were mentioning hadn’t played for Chelsea’s first team and there didn’t seem to be a chance for those still at the club to get promoted to the seniors.”
“There were some unbelievable youngsters at the academy,” Brewster continued.
“It became clear that the problem was opportunities and that they weren’t being made available, even to guys we thought would 100 per cent move up.
“I didn’t want to leave because I’d been there for so long, I did love Chelsea and they played a big part in my early development.
“I knew that it wasn’t about what was comfortable and the easy option though, but what was best for me. I’m very glad I took the decision.”
At Liverpool, the rising star managed to break through the youth ranks and was included in the first-team by Jurgen Klopp before his injury.
The England youth international is expected to return the Reds first-team setup once he recovers from his knee problem.
Brewster won the U17 World Cup with England last year but a little-known fact is that he is also eligible to represent Turkey.
Should the forward ever end up in the Super Lig he would count as a domestic player due to having a Turkish mother.
