Arsenal target Domagoj Vida could end up joining Liverpool, according to the Daily Star.
The report boils down to Kieran Maguire who is described as a football finance expert ‘lecturing at Liverpool University, where he gained credibility after his detailed explanation of the Glazers takeover of United in 2003.’
Maguire has urged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to make a deadline day move for the Besiktas defender who has been closely linked with a move to the Premier League.
Arsenal have been linked with a £26m bid for the defender which Maguire feels is a ‘bargain’ – who are we to argue with a football finance expert.
He told Starsport exclusively: “My understanding of the situation is that Besiktas have some kind of Financial Fair Play issue so they are not in a position to dictate terms.
“If I was Klopp I would pay £26m now and secure a new centre-back to play alongside [Virgil] van Dijk.
“The difference between £18m and £26m really isn’t much nowadays – it would be a bargain.”
Besiktas president Fikret Orman is currently in London with his transfer committee.
The Croatia international is expected to leave the club by the end of the day.
Vida joined the Black Eagles on a free transfer from Dynamo Kiev in January and does have another four-years on his contract.
The 29-year-old spent played an integral role in Croatia reaching the World Cup final this summer providing an assist against Russia in the quarter-finals and a goal in the final versus France.
