Europa League: Burnley Scrape Past Basaksehir, Negredo Rescues Besiktas Before Moment Of Madness

Super Lig sides an eventful night in Europe. Burnley scraped past Basaksehir while Besiktas needed a last-gasp goal from Alvaro Negredo to save their blushes.

Let’s start with Basaksehir. Following a goalless first leg the Istanbul based side headed to Turf Moor with no fans. The club did not sell tickets to away fans which is pretty ironic as they have hardly any supporters.

It is fair to say Basaksehir do not have a die-hard following. Unlike their noisy neighbors who have been around for well over a century, the new kids on the block are just 20 years old.

The Istanbul minnows gave Burnley a few scares. Clarets keeper Joe Hart made fine saves to deny Kerim Frei and Edin Visca at the end of the first 45 minutes.

After another goalless 90 minutes the game headed into extra time. Jack Cork ruined any chances of an upset for the visitors after curling into the top corner.

Besiktas meanwhile, won their first leg 1-0 but managed to make things incredibly difficult for themselves.

Linz were leading 2-0 heading into the 90th minute until Alvaro Negredo stepped up and fired the Black Eagles into the next round with a lovely finish – not sure the replay even needed the Titanic song.

He proceeded to celebrate uncontrollably, taking off his shirt and running towards the fans. The only problem was he had already been booked. So the Spanish striker ended up getting himself sent off.
