Arsenal boss Unai Emery reveals why he subbed off Mesut Ozil against Chelsea

Arsenal’s newly appointed manager Unai Emery has revealed why he substituted off Mesut Ozil during the defeat to Chelsea.

The Blues registered a 3-2 win over Arsenal on Saturday leaving Emery’s side with no points after two games.

Ozil played the full 90 minutes against Man City on week 1 but was taken off midway through the second half against Chelsea.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Emery has backed Ozil to find his form but stated he was too tired to continue against the Blues.

The Spanish tactician went onto state that he was happy with Ozil’s performance on the day.

“We need him to help with his quality,” Emery stated.

“And also I want to push him to be competitive every match. Today I’m happy with him because he worked.

“I decided to change because, in the middle, we needed a bit more to push and not let Chelsea progress easily with the ball. We were defending very deep. But I’m happy with Mesut.

“We are going to do with him the same work and helping him, demanding also work every day. But, at the moment, he is doing that and I’m happy.”
