Turks Abroad – Everton Fans Give Cenk Tosun A Standing Ovation, Mesut Ozil Continues To Disappoint & Cengiz Under Returned

Cenk Tosun – Everton

The saying goes… ‘Stats are like miniskirts they do not reveal everything’. That applies to Cenk Tosun who did a brilliant job leading the line against Southampton. Exemplary hold-up play, worked hard, lovely movement, made space for his teammates. He did provide Theo Walcott with an assist but was ruled offside. Tosun deserved a goal. Despite not scoring or assisting the beast from the east received a standing ovation from the Goodison Park faithful.

Mehmet Zeki Celik – Lille

The 21-year-old right-back helped Lille hold French giants Monaco to a goalless draw. We’ve been raving about Celik’s attacking prowess over recent weeks but his defensive ability was showcased on Saturday. The former Istanbulspor full-back made important tackles and four clearances on the day.

Cengiz Under – Roma

Cengiz terrorized Torino on the counter-attack but he was not at his sharpest. It was the first game of the season and a tricky away trip – which the Giallorossi ended up winning – so we will give him the benefit of the doubt but we expect a lot more from the young Turk this season.

Ilkay Gundogan – Manchester City

Gundogan or should we say Batman put on an accomplished midfield display. Passing with grace, contributing to attacking move and working hard on the defensive end. The midfielder of Turkish origin does appear to have his critics who feel he may not be high caliber enough for City. But Pep Guardiola does and who is anyone to disagree?

Mesut Ozil – Arsenal

Ozil has no had the best of starts to the season. He was far from tip-top form against the Blues and was subbed off early.
