“We Have To Be Realistic” – Euro Giants Chief Reveals Frank Reason Why He Signed Liverpool Star This Summer

Besiktas president Fikret Orman has revealed why the club decided to invest in Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius this summer.

The Black Eagles sold Fabri to Fulham earlier this month leaving Tolga Zengin as their only senior keeper in the squad.

Besiktas opted to sign Karius on a two-year loan deal which will become permanent if he plays over 50% of games during his time with the Black Eagles.

Speaking to the Turkish TV station Beyaz TV, Orman stated that he felt the need to sign a new goalkeeper due to Tolga Zengin’s inconsistencies.

“Tolga is a competent and good goalkeeper. He has impressive physical attributes however, he allows emotions to cloud his judgement,” Orman told Beyaz TV.

“If he makes a mistake during the game he struggles to recover mentally.

“We have to be realistic, for this reason, we decided to sign a new goalkeeper.”

Karius slipped down the pecking order at Liverpool following the arrival of Alisson Becker from AS Roma over the summer.

The 26-year-old was Liverpool’s first team goalkeeper last term but suffered a nightmare UEFA Champions League final at the tail end of the 2017/18 season.

Karius could make his debut for Besiktas this weekend when they take on Bursaspor.
