La Liga giants Villareal are set to rival Galatasaray in the race to sign Celtic centre-back Dedryck Boyata.
The Belgium international ended up staying at Celtic Park this summer despite entering the final 12 months of his contract.
According to the Spanish outlet Marca, Villareal will table a bid for Boyata if their star centre-back Victor Ruiz joins Zent St Petersburg.
We recently reported that Galatasaray are also lining up a January bid for the 27-year-old.
Boyata has returned to manager Brendan Rodgers starting eleven in recent weeks and started the Old Firm derby against Rangers over the weekend.
Celtic will be hoping they can extend Boyata’s contract before January otherwise he will be allowed to sign a pre-contract with any European club.
The Hoops are back in action on September 14 after the international break against St Mirren.
Boyata made a total of 39 appearances for Celtic on all competitions last season.
