Former Manchester United scout Javier Ribalta has revealed that he urged Jose Mourinho to sign Emre Can from Liverpool over the summer.

Can was linked with a move to Man United during his final six months at Anfield but ended up joining Juventus on a free deal over the summer.

There has been a 54-year moratorium on transfers between Manchester United and Liverpool.

However, Ribalta has stated that he tried to convince Mourinho to make a move for Can while the Germany international was at the Anfield club.

The Portuguese tactician did not agree with Ribalta and Can ended up leaving the Premier League.

“For my time in Manchester, I was only there for a year but I’d have liked to sign Emre Can and Leon Goretzka on free transfers,” Ribalta told Italian newspaper Tuttosport.

Can has gotten off to a slow start with Juventus since his move. The 24-year-old has started all three of Juve’s games on the bench.

Can made a total of 38 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions last season.
