Loris Karius joined Besiktas on loan from Liverpool last month on a two-year deal.
The German keeper’s errors cost the Reds dearly in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale ended up scoring an incredible bicycle kick goal two minutes after coming off the bench.
Bale then took a long-range shot which Karius misjudged in a mistake that sealed Real the trophy.
The Welshman had supportive words for Karius in a recent interview reflecting on the memorable night in Istanbul.
He told the Daily Mail: “I just said, “Keep your head up”.
“Mistakes happen. It’s just unfortunate it’s in a final.
“Yes, I suppose it’s not quite as bad as it looked but I suppose he should save it.”
Bale went onto explain that his shot technique makes his shots more difficult to save then they look.
“I always try to put a bit of wobble on the ball,” he points out. “It’s the same with free-kicks.
“You try to make it more difficult because if it doesn’t go in the corner I always give them a problem if it’s right down their throat.”
Karius has made two appearances for Besiktas since making his move, staring in a 1-1 draw against Bursaspor and a 2-1 victory over Malatyaspor.
The 25-year-old is set to make his first European competition appearance since the Champions League final defeat when the Black Eagles take on Sarpsborg.
