BBC pundit heaps praise on ‘special’ Man City ace after demolition of Cardiff

BBC pundit Jermaine Jenas has heaped praise on Manchester City’s star midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Its been a strange week for the Germany international. Gundogan started for City during their defeat to Ligue 1 giants Lyon in the UEFA Champions League. The 27-year-old was taken off at halftime following a disappointing performance.

However, City boss Pep Guardiola opted to keep faith in Gundogan and started the midfielder against Cardiff on Saturday. The former Dortmund man repaid his managers faith in him with a goal and assist.

Jenas labelled Gundogan as “special” following his display against Cardiff, live on BBC Match of the Day on Saturday evening.

“He was special,” the former Tottenham midfielder said on MOTD.

“After the disappointment in midweek, I think it was definitely important for City to get back to their creative best.

“I was surprised that [David] Silva didn’t start the game but Gundogan filled that void perfectly.

“He was ever present in the little pockets of space. He was willing to make things happen.

“City will punish you and it was that kind of afternoon for players like [Raheem] Sterling and Gundogan who really seemed to enjoy themselves.

“Gundogan’s goal was the perfect goal for a central midfielder. Finishes don’t get much better than that.”
