Loris Karius has insisted that his mistakes during the UEFA Champions League final for Liverpool were down to the concussion he suffered.
The Reds suffered a 3-1 defeat to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
The 25-year-old made the headlines for all the wrong reason that night after two critical errors leading directly to goals.
However, subsequent medical tests showed that Karius had suffered a concussion following a collision with Sergio Ramos.
Liverpool went onto replace Karius with Alisson Becker while the German keeper joined Besiktas on a two-year-loan deal.
“In normal circumstances, it’s hard to imagine that I would make those mistakes,” Karius told the Daily Star.
“Nobody will ever know the link between the blow I received and the mistakes I later made on the pitch. It’s not an excuse, just an explanation.”
Karius has made an impressive start to his Besiktas career and played a starring role as the Black Eagles held their rivals Fenerbahce to a 1-1 draw.
The Istanbul giants have the option to sign Karius on a permanent deal at the end of his two-year loan spell.
