Arsenal will benefit from star midfielder retirement says Thomas Rosicky

Former Arsenal star midfielder Thomas Rosicky believes Mesut Ozil’s performances will improve as a result of his retirement from international football.

The 29-year-old opted to quit the Germany national team citing racism and discrimination following the disastrous 2018 World Cup campaign.

Ozil spent the previous international break training with Unai Emery in north London. The break appears to have done Ozil some good as he has scored two goals in the Gunners last three games.

The former Real Madrid man also played a key role during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday.

Rosicky believes Arsenal will benefit from a fresher Ozil now that he has retired from international football.

“It can be tricky at the start for him, but again we will see his development in the new team,” Rosicky was quoted as saying by Goal.

“Because I think in the long term it [quitting the national team] can be positive for him that he will suddenly have a break now and he can rest and train properly, and prepare himself for the Premier League.

“I think he will still be a key player for Arsenal and, if he is playing well, Arsenal will be playing well.”
