Reason why Roma rejected Arsenal £25m bid for in-demand star – Tottenham also interested

Turkey international star Cengiz Under has been linked with a move away from AS Roma following an impressive run of form in Italy.

The 21-year-old has established himself as a first team regular in Di Francesco’s side and has netted two goals and provided four assists in eight appearances for Roma this season.

Arsenal, Tottenham and Bayern Munich have all been linked with a move for the Turkey international in recent weeks.

However, Roma has so far resisted all attempts from Europe’s elite clubs to sell their star asset.

According to the Roma based outlet ForzaRoma.info, the reason why Roma decided to reject bids from both Bayern Munich and Arsenal is down to finances.

Per the source, Istanbul Basasksehir – who sold Under to Roma – are set to earn 20 percent of Under’s transfer fee. Under’s former club Altinordu will also receive a small percentage of the transfer fee.

ForzaRoma specifically states that the Gunners had a £25 million turned down. The report goes on to state that Tottenham are also waiting patiently in the wings.

Under played the full 90 minutes for the Turkey national team during their 2-0 defeat to Russia on Sunday evening.

The 21-year-old is expected to return to action for Roma when they take on SPAL on Saturday.
