Juventus summer signing Emre Can is facing a major fitness worry ahead of this evenings clash with Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League.
The Germany international has been diagnosed with a thyroid problem which may require surgery.
Can has already established himself as an important member of the Juve squad following his move from Liverpool on a free transfer. The 24-year-old has made ten appearances for the Serie A giants.
The former Liverpool man was left on the bench during Juve’s 1-1 draw with Genoa over the weekend.
Following the game, Juventus released a statement on their official website that stated that Can has a thyroid problem and could undergo surgery.
The A brief statement read: “Emre Can will undergo clinical tests and investigations for a thyroid nodule that could also require surgical treatment.”
It is unclear whether Can will be able to play against Man United but has been included in Juventus’ provisional squad.
Juventus have won their opening two games in Group H and can go five points clear of Man United with a win at Old Trafford tonight.
Can has four-years remaining on his contract with Juventus and has made a total of 21 apperances for the Germany national team.
