Fenerbahce are plotting a move for Liverpool defender Joel Matip according to A Spor.

Per the source, Yellow Canaries sporting director Damien Comolli has opened up negotiation channels between the club and Matip’s representatives.

Comolli wants Matip on a loan move in January but the report claims that Fenerbahce could face competition from Fulham.

Matip has made just seven appearances this season playing a total of 272 minutes of first-team football.

The 27-year-old defender still has another two-years remaining on his contract but limited playing time could force him to consider his options.

The problem Matip has had is that Joe Gomes and Virgil van Dijk have been in great form as a central defensive partnership.

Matip and Dejan Lovren have therefore been given limited playing time.

Despite this Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made it clear that Matip could be given more time in the future.

“It’s all good,” Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Dejan had a very intense year – then he had the World Cup after a very good season for us. After the World Cup he came back injured and had no pre-season. He needed to train.

“Since then he is stepping in. He is doing really well. Dejan had games and will have games.

“The harder thing is Joel. He is in a very good shape. He had a difficult last year as well. He came back and could do most of the pre-season.

“That’s how the situation is: it’s not forever, it’s always in the moment. You have to use moments and stuff like that. The boys have reacted pretty well so far but I didn’t expect anything different.”

Fenerbahce would be able to offer the Cameroon international first-team football were he to make the move.

The Yellow Canaries are preparing for an overhaul over the winter transfer window after a disastrous start to the season.

Phillip Cocu has already been sacked and caretaker manager Erwin Koeman is currently in charge.
