Galatasaray Book A Place In The Europa League Despite Losing Against Porto

Galatasaray suffered a 3-2 defeat against Porto at the Turk Telekom Arena in the Champions League Match Day 6 clash tonight.

The Lions managed to book a place in the Europa League despite losing the game.

The reigning Super Lig champions owed passage to the European competition to Schalke who beat Lokomotiv Moscow 1-0 in Germany.

Lokomotiv would have overtaken Galatasaray in the group had they beat the Bundesliga outfit.

Porto, who had already secured top spot in the group, were fortunate not to concede a penalty and have Felipe sent off for handling the ball on the line.

The referee completely missed the incident and Felipe went onto score the opener minutes later.

Moussa Marega doubled the away sides when he converted a controversial 42nd minute penalty, netting for the fifth successive Champions League game.

The Lions ended up scoring their first Champions League game since September when Sofiane Fenghouli scored a penalty following another soft spot-kick call by the referee.

Galatasaray pulled another goal back thanks to Eren Derdiyok in the 65th minute and could have equalised had Algeria international Feghouli converted his second penalty.
