Fenerbahce have ramped up efforts to complete the signing of Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater on loan.

Sources close to the club have revealed to Turkish-Football that the Yellow Canaries sporting director Damien Comolli is leading talks.

Comolli played an important role in Victor Moses joining on an 18-month move last week.

Fenerbahce have made strengthening central midfield a priority and are keen on landing a deal for Drinkwater.

The 28-year-old has made just one 30-minute appearance since the Maurizio Sarri replaced Antonio Conte as Chelsea manager.

Sarri does not appear to have plans for the midfielder despite revealing that he does actually rate the player highly.

The Italian manager made it clear that Drinkwater has not been playing for tactical reasons and that it is up to the player whether he wants to leave or stay put in his most recent press conference.

“He is not a central midfielder, he is not a centre-right in the midfielder with three players. But he’s a very good player in a 4-4-2,” he said.

Regarding his future Sarri and stated that his future “is up to him”.

Drinkwater is paid £100,000-a-week which Fenerbahce could struggle to cover due to FFP commitments.

The midfielder would join fellow Chelsea teammate Moses at Fenerbahce if he were to join.
