Borussia Dortmund Star Shinji Kagawa Arrives In Istanbul Ahead Of Completing Besiktas Transfer

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa has travelled to Istanbul, Turkey ahead of completing his move to Besiktas.

Sources close to the Black Eagles revealed to Turkish-Football that Kagawa will officially put pen-to-paper after undergoing a medical.

Kagawa is currently in Turkey and will be unveiled in a signing ceremony shortly.

The Japan international will join on a loan until the end of the season for a €1.1m fee and will replace Tolgay Arslan who joined Fenerbahce yesterday.

Besiktas have made strengthening the midfield a priority over the winter transfer window but the Kagawa deal also has a commercial angle.

The Istanbul based outfit have been targeting the Japanese market and recently signed a sponsorship deal with the newspaper group Mainichi.

Additionally, the Besiktas basketball team is also sponsored by the Japan Sompo insurance company.

The Black Eagles have a growing interest in the region and hope the latest transfer will help develop relations further.

Kagawa joins Burak Yilmaz, Nicolas Isimat-Mirin and Muhayer Oktay as the fourth January transfer.

The 29-year-old struggled for playing time at Dortmund this season making just five appearances in all competitions.
